Peruvian Americans from all over New Jersey come to Paterson to celebrate the Peruvian Parade in Paterson. Thousands of visitors stand behind gates on Main Street, celebrate their ethnic heritage. For many, this is the closest they will get to Peru without taking a passport in their hands and heading on a seven hour flight to Peru. Visitors savor anticuchos, tamales, and other Peruvian street food items. Peruvian restaurants are packed throughout this city, which is known as the unofficial capital of the Peruvian diaspora.
